Slim UVC LED Troffer

Germicidal UVC LED Lighting

UV light contains several unique properties and characteristics, which can be used to disinfect viruses, bacteria, mold, spores and other harmful microbes. This sanitation method relies on UVC wavelengths, i.e. UV bands within a range of 200 nm to 280 nm, to deactivate the cellular ribonucleic acid (RNA) and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), as well as the reproductive capabilities of microorganisms.

ViroBeam® UVC LED product wavelength output is between 265nm-275nm which has been tested to be the most effective UVC bandwidth during time of exposure.

Effect of UVC

The light-induced damage to the DNA and RNA of a microorganism often results from the dimerization of pyrimidine molecules. In particular, thymine (which is only found only in DNA) produces cyclobutene dimers. When thymine molecules are dimerized, it becomes very difficult for the nucleic acids to replicate and if replication does occur it often produces a defect that prevents the microorganism from being viable.

Protection

UVC light is a powerful solution against disease-causing microorganisms. UVC light is harmful to humans as it can cause burns on the skin and damage the cornea. To ensure safety, individuals should proactively avoid UVC exposure through the use of safety glasses, gloves, suits and other protective gear.

It is highly recommended not be in the area when applying ViroBeam products at UVC wavelengths over 222nm to disinfect a room.

Intensity, Exposure and Duration

Intense UVC light exposure is more effective and makes the sanitation process quicker. The most common unit of measure used for UVC intensity at a given point is a microwatt per centimeter squared (μW/cm²).

The rate of exposure (dose, J/cm² or mJ/cm²) is critical to the application of UVC. When an object is removed from the UVC field, irradiation ceases immediately. The response of UV treatment is often described as sigmoidal. Immediately after exposure, microorganisms sustain maximum injury. Time required of exposure is in relation to the dose objective of the application while conduction UVC treatment and can range from seconds to several minutes.

Methods of UV Treatment

There are numerous ways to facilitate treatment and administer UVC light for sanitation in rooms and on surfaces or objects. For large spaces or facilities, ViroBeam® troffers and high bay lighting systems are ideal to ensure wide and full coverage of the area. UVC handlamps can be utilized to disinfect hard-to-reach surfaces, odd-sized equipment and objects at proximity. For custom UVC sanitations systems, contact Levicom Inc.

Our Air-Exchangers use dual air filtrations systems, both UVC LEDs and HEPA filters. Slim design, silent and equipped with powerful fan motors, ViroBeam® X-Air series of air exchangers are an ideal choice for home, office, schools, fitness centers and hospital rooms.

Applications

The application of Ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) to disinfection has been an accepted practice since the mid-20th century. It has been used primarily in medical sanitation and sterile work facilities. Increasingly, it has been employed to sterilize drinking and wastewater since the holding facilities are enclosed and can be circulated to ensure a higher exposure to the UV. In recent years, UVGI has found renewed application in air purifiers, hospitals, schools, food processing plants and the list goes on...

ViroBeam® LEDs UV wavelength output is between 260nm-270nm which has been tested to be the most effective UVC bandwidth during time of exposure.

It is highly recomended not be present in the area when disinfecting with ViroBeam® UVC products. If you must be in the area, wear protective eyewear and cover skin to avoid sever damage.

ViroBeamm Simulator

Online Simulator

We developed an online simulators for all ViroBeam® products to make it easy to calculate the UVC dosage (μW/cm² X time of exposure) required at different heights and radial distances from the source to the area you want to disinfect.

The values obtained using the simulator are calculated using both the Inverse Square Law Formula and Lamberts' Cosine Law to calculate UV intensity. Additionally, we conducted our own tests using UVC sensors and meters to measure Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) at specific distances to calibrate the simulator further.
